Fetal Development Stages This is how your baby develops every trimester from conception to labor as shown in these detailed images. First Trimester Fertilization In the 2nd week after conception, the process of ovulation begins. Once the sperm is penetrated, the egg fertilization process starts after 12 to 24 hours. With time, the fertilized egg divides itself into multiple cells as it travels down to the fallopian tube, enters your uterus and attaches itself to your uterus lining. Implantation It nests itself in the lining of your uterus and transforms into a microscopic ball of numerous rapidly multiplying cells that will form into your baby. This microscopic ball, also called a Blastocyst, starts to produce the HCG pregnancy hormone, which instructs your ovaries to stop ovulation. Formation of Circulatory System and Physical Features Your baby starts growing at a faster rate. The circulatory system begins to form and the tiny heart starts beating in the 5th week. Physical features like nose, mouth and ears; and the brain and the intestines start developing. After a few weeks, your baby doubles in size. Now it has little hands and feet also. Baby starts to breath and shows movement As time passes by, your baby starts moving but you may not feel its movement yet. Nerve cells begin to branch out and form primitive neural pathways. Breathing tubes extend from the throat to the lungs (in the development phase). The embryonic tail disappears. Your baby weighs just a fraction of an ounce but continues to gain weight at a faster rate. The skin still remains colorless. Final Stage of First Trimester At this stage, your baby is almost fully formed and can kick or stretch. Your baby’s tiny fingers have fingerprints and his or her veins and organs are visible through the skin. In case of a baby girl, her ovaries may have more than 2 million eggs. Second Trimester The Stage of Gender Determination At the initial stage of the second trimester, your baby's kidneys become active. You may even see your baby sucking his or her thumb. Ultrasounds done at this time may help determine your baby’s gender. This is the most likely phase to feel your baby’s kick! With time, your baby can flex his arms and legs, and you may feel these movements. Your baby's senses – smell, vision, touch, taste and hearing – begin to develop and your baby can also hear your voice. Physical features like lips and eyebrows become distinct. At a later stage, your baby's wrinkled skin starts filling with baby fat. Hair growth takes place along with color and texture. Now your baby can inhale and exhale which is essential for the development of lungs. In the last week of your second trimester, your baby starts sleeping and waking up on a regular schedule and have an active brain. Third Trimester At the initial stage of the third trimester, you may notice that your growing baby is occupying more space. This may result in having leg cramps as the pressure of nerves on your back increases. This is the time when parenthood is visible on the horizon. Your baby's eyesight starts to develop and can turn his or her head from side to side. The central nervous system starts maturing as well as lungs. Babies born during 34 and 37 weeks are usually healthier. 37TH week – Due Date is close During the 37th week, the due date is quite close, while your baby resembles a newborn, but your baby may not be ready for the outside world. In the coming two weeks, your baby’s lungs and brain turn fully mature. Turning Full Term In the 39th week, your baby reaches the full-term stage. If you have crossed your due date, you may not be late because sometimes women ovulate later than expected. Your baby is now in the late-term stage. Two weeks past your due date may put you and your baby at risk, so you should talk to your doctor about the decision of inducing labor. Labor and Delivery At this stage, the uterine contractions and abdominal pressure pushes out the fetus from the woman’s body. Regular contractions dilate the cervix allowing the baby to be pushed outside. This is the moment you had always waited since months. It is a natural tendency to feel nervous. Choosing the right IVF clinic can be a real headache. One can spend hours on the internet searching for details that seem the same after a while. With IVF treatments becoming more and more frequent, and with more people opting for assisted pregnancy or putting off their pregnancies till a later date, a larger number of clinics seem to offer the same services. At this important juncture, it is up to you to decide which route will be the most suitable for you and your future family. What are the key factors that determine whether a planned IVF can be successful? How can you ensure that you have availed yourself of the best team of doctors? A clinic primarily offers you a service that you can use. So it is very important for you to make a phone call or check their local listing. How much information do they provide outright to make you convinced? Do they ease you of your fears and do you feel more agreeable to querying more about the treatment and the possible risks that are involved? One of the first things that should be checked are age-based reports on success rates at the clinic. If they are not readily available, you should feel obliged to find out more in person or through the telephone. IVF treatments still depend a lot on the person’s age factor, and so a detailed report on the handling of patients and their success rates corresponding to their age is a good way to decide where you would like to proceed with your IVF. At International Fertility Centre, IVF treatments in Delhi and all their procedures are readily available. Another factor that checks whether an IVF clinic is good for you or not is to see how established the clinic is and how many IVF cycles have been performed by the doctors there. If there are a large number, this would mean that the success rates and other percentages promoted by the clinic is closer to the truth and are not distorted. It could also definitely mean that the doctors at the clinic are experienced and are used to more risks and complications, should they ever arise. Then a further clue to finding the right IVF clinic is to compare and contrast the actual figures that are listed by the clinic. Numbers don’t often mean much, but elements such as Live Birth Rates show as to expect with such medical procedures in general, how to prepare oneself for such treatment and what subsequent plans can be made once the treatment has concluded. Looking for these small pointers can help in a big way while deciding on IVF clinics. You should feel free to ask any and all doubts that may arise on the procedure and the changes that you may undergo. The International Fertility Centre, which has the best IVF treatment in India, prides on its transparency on procedure.
